Honda 130 Timing Marks

I have a question for anyone that might know the answer pertaining to timing a 130. As per the manual, the #1 mark on the timing belt driven pulley and the mark on the lower cover align. Opposite that at the timing belt drive pulley on the crankshaft, the dot on the pulley aligns with the mark on the block. With that said, the specifications in the front of the manual state that the ignition timing is 10 degree BTDC at 620 rpm (idle).

Question... are the reference timing belt setting marks above at the 10 degree BTDC? Also what effect would be on the ignition if it was purposely set a tooth or two ahead of the marks?

Just curious if anyone has experience with this level of adjusting. I know that the ECM through the rpm range and other input sensors adjust for the timing but is it from the base alignment marks?

Thanks

Re: Honda 130 Timing Marks

Only use the original factory marks when installing the belt, you will do severe damage to the engine if you experiment. The ignition timing is controlled by the ecu and takes a reference from the crank position sensor, this is not adjustable.By altering the position by two teeth as you sugested, you will only be altering the valve timing which you MUST NOT DO.
