I have a 2002 honda 130. I put it on a custom houseboat I built that weighs 9500 loaded. I'm using a 14x11 pitch prop. The boat pushes up to 6000 easily at 18 knots. Is it ok to stay at that rpm for long or should I be at 5000. I'm considering going up to a 14x13. What do you think?

Re: honda 130 rpm

We'll see what others have to say, but my understanding has always been that the ideal RPM for both performance and fuel economy is right around 4000 rpm. I seldom ever run my BF130 in the range you mention.

Stuart

6000 is within range for the motor, 14X13 might lug the motor to much and that will cause more damage then running at 6000.

Keep it around 5600 and you will probably avoid problems. Like everyone says running around 4000-4500 gives you better economy, but every boat is different, my best fuel economy according to my flo scans is 4200 rpms.
