Re: Honda 130 question

they all do that especially if you dont squeeze the primer ball on the fuel line

Re: Honda 130 question

Snag, I have a 2001 Honda 130 does the same thing, Must be real annoying to have two of them doing that. I thought it was not priming with the bulb for a while but it doesn't effect it. Every once in a while mine will start and stay running with no apparent cause. Mine also has an intermittent hesitation on hot restarts. Have you tried to get this fixed?

Re: Honda 130 question

When you start your motors are you turning the key on and waiting to hear the double tone then cranking the motors up or are you just turning the key straight to the crank position?

Re: Honda 130 question

Thanks for the replies I always squeeze the primer bulbs before starting.I have never tried to get this fixed,I figured that if both engines have the same traits it must be a common problem.Mine will start and stay running once in a while on the first cranking.I love my hondas and if this is the only problem i can live with it.the engines idle very smooth and quiet you cant ask for anything better for trolling in my eyes.

I have 1999 that I have only owned for one season. Same thing happens unless I lift the level and give it a little more gas.

Re: Honda 130 question

Hey guys! My 99 almost always starts and runs, cold weather or hot, if I work the primer bulb several times after it stiffens before starting. If I only pump 2 or 3 times, it too will choke out and require re-cranking!

Re: Honda 130 question

i wonder if you people that have problems and have to restart your engines ever check your racor filters for water. or have a QUALLIFIED HONDA TEC set your engine up properly. if i have to start a fuel injected motor twice it won't leave the shop until it's right. the amount of rigging mistakes i see are sickening. because beginers rig boats and tec's repair engines. also have you looked at the port side of your 130's cyl head to see if the head gasket is starting to push it's way out, or salt build up. this is a common problem in our area. water starts to get into the cyl's fouling plugs and making cold idle more difficult. one more thought, you may want to check your thermostat.

Re: Honda 130 question

Snag,
I know I asked this before, but, when you start your motors do you turn the key on, hear the double tone and then crank up, or just turn the key straight from off to crank. If you just grab the key and twist to crank they will more than likley die on start up. You should turn the key on and hear the double tone then crank them up. These motors will always turn over for two revolutions before they start. They find number one on the first spin and fire it the next time around. If you turn your key on hear the tones and then crank they should fire right up. If they do die after this there is something wrong. Did you buy these motors new? Your 02 motor should fall into the recall/notice about cracking. They should have sent you a letter about possible cracking that could show water in the cylinders. Free dealer inspection and a 10 year powerhead warrenty on affected units. Your 03 should be ok, after the affected units. How many hours on these?

Re: Honda 130 question

I usually hear the tones before starting.and i have checked the water filters. the engines only have about 70 hours on them. i never changed the warrenty over yet i bought the boat with 17 hours.maybe i should to get the recall notice. That is my only complant and i love the engines besides having to restart.the boat has only been run in fresh water.thanks for all the ideas Snagglepuss.

Re: Honda 130 question

Greetings and salutations,
I have a single Honda 130 ('01) on one of my boats (Eastern 22) and find that it also stalls on first startup in the morning, unless I bump the idle with the throttle. This is tricky because if you bump it too far it will rev up too high, so I'd prefer to avoid it. I've had the engine serviced by a Honda dealer but never mentioned the startup stalling, as I thought it was "normal". The boat has been checked for the cracked block recall, and had the fuel pump recall.

I will try the "wait for two beeps" and "squeeze the fuel bladder" techniques when the boat is in the water next Spring, but what else could be done when commissioning? I'd like to avoid another trip to the dealer if possible as it's not too convenient.

Regards,
Jon Brush

2002 Eastern 22 "Lobsterfisherman" w/ Honda 130
196? Re: Honda 130 question

hello
squeezing the primer should not be nessasary on an EFI engine as the high pressure pump draws fuel from the vapor seperator which should not be dry. it is a good idea to prime it before starting to test the low pressure system for leaks. what I have found is sometimes after sitting a week or so you need to cycle the keyswitch. turn it on wait 10 seconds turn it off wait 30 sec then back on for 10 then crank it. sometimes the high pressure fuel rail does not build sufficient pressure and will have air in it at the first crank. it is a common problem with small EFI motors. if the problem continues see your honda dealer
good luck and keep posting
