Here is a homemade submersible fishing light I made. It?s waterproof by compression. The test tube compresses the boat plug which in turn compresses the vinyl tubing. The vinyl tubing contains the electrical wire and is uncapped at the battery terminal. This allows air to expand and contract without forming a vacuum and sucking water past the boat plug. It uses a 12 V 50 watt halogen bulb and should run for about 8 hours before draining the battery down 50 %. As simple as it looks it took a lot of quite thinking to construct, kept me out of trouble.

Re: Homemade underwater fishing light

looks great!!!

I love fishing with underwater lights:)

Take a pick of what it looks like at about 10' deep from the boat. I like to see how big the light spred is.

where did you get all your parts from?

I like that!

I have used BB's, lead shot and lead 44 cal round balls for weights in a number of projects...... have found a good trick..... place them in a baggie before you use them and then you can squirt glue into the baggie. This keeps them together (if you ever have to take things apart) and cuts back on the rattle.

Would LED bulbs last longer?

That is a great idea. Especially the vinyl tube.

I am going to make one but I will use Led as light to use less current. I can pick up the test tube the science section of hobby store.

It is less cost to by a three 2 packs of 9 led flashlights than it is to just by the led count needed. The 2 pack flashlights are about 4 bucks around here and they are the super bright rated led.

Looks bright you probably don?t have condensation problems with that.

I thought about that but I don?t know of a Led that will match the power of a quartz halogen. Maybe someone does

This particular test tube is 7/8 inch I.D. I broke several of them troubleshooting another desighn.

Hey, that's pretty cool. With all the shot in the top, how does it float, bulb up or bulb down?

Only downside I see to the halogen is battery drain. I used to use the headlight/foam ring fishing lights, and they would suck a battery down pretty quick. I switched over to fluorescent's and while I don't think they work as well as the incandescent bulbs(fish attracting wise), they don't kill the batteries as quick, even if fishing all night long.

I'll look at the light output and current drain of an LED and quartz headlight next time I am at the auto parts store. It could be put into a glass jar with a weight and RTV sealed lid. Looking at current drain and led count would give me a spec to look up the LED at online component supply sites like DIGIKEY.

Same thing with this product that uses two AA batteries. Enough of the LED's in series and It would make a brighter light that would run of 12 volts.

Looks like the light did it's job. Put fish in the boat.
Was that all bait sitting just under the boat?

Did you get around to making an LED version?
