I've read here somewhere about a way to make your own seafoam. Can anyone remember the ratios of the ingredients or the post? I can't find the seafoam or the deep creep in the area I'm in. Also what is the procedure for the decarb on the engine.

Thanks, Jimmy

Re: home made seafoam

Thanks guy's,Hooty I've known about decarbing auto's with water or even atf for as long as I can remember. My father was an auto mech for ford and gm for 42 years as well as the military for several years and have seen this done numerous times but I wasn't sure about the application on boat motors. Also know if not done correctly it will pit the pistons.Water in a combustion chamber is extremely volatile. Has anyone ever tried any of the stuff made for auto's? I know alot of the stuff is probably no more than kerosene or diesel fuel in a can maybe with a little more oil added such as marvel mystery oil which works pretty well. Just a thought. Thanks again, Jimmy

Jimmy, you're only the second person I've ever heard mention ATF.
Please, tell us how the homebrew decarb works out if you try it.

Like I said, I've never decarbed with water but JB haz. I think basically it just steam cleans the top of the pistons and heads.

c/6
Hooty

Re: home made seafoam

From what some of the people I havae talked to, theory behind the water is this, only a theory. Water is made of hydrogen and oxygen, two of the most explosive gasses in the atmosphere, when put under compression with the heat it seperates and causes this confined explosion inside the combustion chamber. just a theory, but regardless it does work. MOst of the people who use it or talk about it are " old timers" some of the smartest people I've eveer met.
Jimmy

Using water is just steam cleaning - doesn't separate into hydrogen and oxy or NASA would use it like that. Does work real good on autos tho.

You guys crack me up. Are you so cheap as to risk ruining your expensive motors to save a couple bucks using homemade Seafoam or even water? Break the bank and use the right stuff! Geezzz...

The only problem with spritzing water into the carbs, is that it only cleans the top of the pistons. It does not get down into the ring grooves and cylinder walls where it really needs it. I'm with Seafoam on this one....

Just get ready to replace all your head gaskets after you use that seafoam!

Yeah, and after you use seafoam, you will need to build a new house and go to the dentist.

But guys, it takes care of that pesky mosquito problem down here in SE Louisiana. Neighbors don't appreciate it tho. Don't know if its your housse or their house thats burning.

Forget the homemade stuff. You can get the same results by taking the heads off and using a cold chisel and 25 lb sledge to decarb the piston crowns. Then take 36 grit sandpaper on a small grinder to smooth everything out. :D :D :D

BillP,

What the H*!! are you thinking, the only way to do it is with a blow torch and an air chisel.
