Can I use the wires at home depot to wire a trolling motor? Will it work? It is a 6 gauge ,copper, twisted, and it says 900 volts on the jacket. I am trying to wire a 65lbs 24 volts trolling motor. Also would a 50 amp circuit breaker work for these wire? or do I need a 60 amp?

Re: Home Depot wires

Can you? Yes. The problem with home type wiring is it isn't going to hold up under wet conditions like marine wire. Moisture will wick down the conductors and the wire will corrode inside of the insulation.Marine wire is tin plated
Marine wire is measured as A W G (American Wire Gauge) regular copper stranded is S.A.E., AWG 10 gauge is equal to 8 gauge SAE.

^^^ yeah it will work, but I don't see why you would want to use Home Depot wire.

Buy your wiring from https://www.genuinedealz.com/ since their tinned "marine" wire is the same price as Home Depot's non-marine wire. They also have all the tinned connectors you'll need to complete the project, they can crimp and heat-shrink the terminations for a nominal fee and shipping is free, only takes a couple of days to get to you.

A 50 amp breaker will work fine with that TM.

I use genuinedealz all the time. Just had a bunch of battery cables made up.

I use Interstate Battery for all my marine wire and they have excellent prices and a good stock.........does not hurt to check.

Thanks for the replies. Now the circuit breaker I have says 12v v16 50amps , do I have to buy one that says 24 volts or can I continue to still use this one? I am switching from 12v to 24 volts .

Re: Home Depot wires

Typically, they would be the same. If you can get a part number off it, you can call the manufacturer of the breaker to ask them.
