Re: Home based business

flashback,
I do not know how much experience you may have so this is just an idea. What about starting a home-based home remodeling/renovations business? You can work under your own name or start a LLC company, maybe even incorporate? If you have more experience in certain area's(for example)flooring, what about a flooring business.Roofing/siding,etc,etc,the list goes on.Of course you should be licensed and insured and have experience/knowledge in that field.Home inspector?Pool cleaning? These are money makers where I'am anyway.Good luck.Be your own boss!

There's a guy here who does the small home repairs that the big guys don't want to handle. Faucet washers, minor carpentry, drape hanging, room painting, etc. The kind of things women can't get their husbands to do or they don't have anyone to do it for them. He advertises in church bulletins and small neighborhood weeklies. If you're handy, this can be a pretty good business.

Re: Home based business

flashback,I recently faced the same problem and started a buisness such as Jack Shellac stated. Taz's "Honey Do" service and home repair. All the little jobs that most people don't want to do because they are just small jobs. This kept things going for me. I'm starting school with CSX Railroad so my buisness is in limbo now but you will be suprised to learn that people are looking for people to do such jobs as Jack suggested. If you are any good at sheetrock repairs hook up with a plumber and you will also be suprised at the work they can generate for you. Good Luck!!

Taz

flashback, I can totally understand the burnout you are talking about. Construction has it's times but when it is down it's down. My buisness kept money going until the CSX job opened up. Kept me out of shipyards and having to take a job I didn't "want" but really needed. Good Luck once again!!

Taz

Re: Home based business

flashback, I have a courier service that has a total of 4 employees counting myself and my wife.
It took a little leg work and some talking to get started, but then it has just got easier as it has went along.
Had to talk to potenial customers and get their trust in me.
I started out with my wife answering the phones and then calling me on my cell phone with the next pick-up, and now I sit and answer the phone and fax machine and then send a e-mail to one of my two drivers phones as to where the next pick-up is.
Not to bad now cause we have about the same customers all the time so the drivers know where and when to be there.
Works for me.

Re: Home based business

there's a million ways to make a living outa the
house. I buy/sell high end computer eqpmt. just
a middleman. someone needs to buy a part, I go
out and find it, mark it up, and re-sell it to
them. also buy old mainframes, tear 'em down and
sell the parts to maint. companys. in my business,
I'm considered a broker. you could broker just
about any product in the world like boat brokers.
of course I worked for other companies for many
years before I started my own gig.
good luck,
M.Y.

Re: Home based business

Flashback while considering a home based buisness make sure you know 2 things. #1 and most importiant what type of home loan do you have and what does it restrict? We got a good rate (government loan for educators it's like a HUD loan) on our loan but there is a catch it is strictly a home loan we can't operate any buisness off our property for 10 years. If we get caught the least thing that could happen is our loan goes to a much higher rate and we have to pay a fine. #2 what zoning does the area you live in have? This can be as bad as the first or worse. If you happen to live in a place like we do you can do anything that is legal on your property but just down the road people with bigger lots can't even own a horse, pig or goat or run a buisness off thier property. Still other areas don't allow you to even use your home as a base for a construction buisness even if you store your equipment elsewhere. There are many many ways property can be zoned and you need to check into that before you get into big trouble and spend some money(fines) and perhaps jail time.

Re: Home based business

many thanks to all of you,Spinner-bait nut, i thought that might be what you were doing, sounds like something interesting. once you got it up and running it most likely allows you some flexability. not tied down to a 9 to 5 all the time. maybe you ought to franchise it. anyway Ill keep you all posted, in the mean time please drop in with any ideas you come up with. as most of you know, commiting to a concept is the easy part,my problem is finding the right concept..
