2006 Cheby Vette? (Loaded) My son just called me from the BuckWheat state. He thinks thats a good deal! Some would call it Ohio
What ever he is smoking I think I need some to just settle down.
Arrg.. No GM product is worth 5000.00 let alone 31,000.00
I just did a search on loaded 2006 vettes... he might be correct.
Arrrg.. that hurts.. (in a fun way) 8)

I paid $14,400.00 for my first house.m1973
Sold it for $40,000.00 in 1979.

Bought this house in 1985 for $34,000.00 and have
offers from $99,000.00 to $150,000.00

But a car?
$31000.00 That is a bit too much.
It could be that I'm out of touch !

Going back under my safe secure rock. :)

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me - out of touch. My son finished school last May. Since then he's bought an Acura for $34,000 and last week he bought a Jeep Commander for $40,000. $75,000 worth of vehicles just doesn't seem right to me.

Yes Link, you are out of touch.
They tell me it has something to do with the passing-of-the-years.
Father always told me to relate things to a percentage of your income.
(apparantly there is an annual publication that does just this, and relates it to past years too......never found this publication)
When he was middle-aged, he told me a car was 1.5 times an average annual income, and a house 7 times an average annual income.
So going by his reckoning, things may actually have got cheaper.
He also told me the wealthiest man in the street was not the man with the biggest house, but the one with no mortgage.
But.....to be honest, I am in the same boat as you..(sigh)
Cheers
Phillip

Ya gotta pay attention, Link.

I bought my first house in 1959 for $8,000 ( when my annual inbcome was about $5,000) and my first Mercedes (new) in 1963 for $4200. I was making about $9,000 a year at the time. In those days the "rule" was not more than twice annual income for a home, half annual income for a business-deductible vehicle.

Now my #3 daughter just bought a house for $240,000 (about twice her income) and my son just bought a Mercedes CL500 to drive on the job for about $65,000 (about half his income).

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The "06 goes for $50,000+, so that is a good deal, or maybe not....make sure not wrecked, flooded, damaged.

I'm looking at USED trucks and not finding anything for less than $20k unless it has 300,000 miles on it.

I hear ya Link. I paid $26K for a 2.5 y/o suburban back in '96. I vowed never to pay more than that, ever again. However, the Mrs did not agree when she bought her '05 Lincoln LS.+o(

Having just gone to the Portland Auto Show, I had to take my glycerin pills just to stay on my feet. $26K is just a drop in the bucket today.

I just hope and pray that my current fleet holds up 'til I'm in the wheel chair.

The sad thing is when I was at the boat show last weekend I was looking at boats and saying "thats not a bad price" and my wife would look at me like I had a green horn growing out my forhead, and remind me of just how much $50,000 really is. Truely sad. At least I can say we have the title to everything we drive, but unfortunately home ownership still remains just slightly out of reach...

the Ford Shelby mustang is going for around 40k....the first one was just auctioned off for something like 1.5mil...(I think that's what it went for...)...

my wifes pathfinder back in 98 went for 32k.....and ford wants to know why they are going under as number 3 car manufacturer .....nobody can afford the cars anymore!!...not the average joe....

Well you guys are pretty spot on with your information.
I guess with the figures he really can afford it.

Even though he doesn't make much money.

Oh I did not know this when posting. Bad cell at his end.
The 31K is the payoff after his trade.

My advice was to just keep his car and bank the money.
But I can not argue with his reply.
Note: He is 32 years old. Never been married and NO Bills.
Not even a credit card.

Dad
I know I don't need it. But I've always dreamed of owning a
corvette.
I want it so I'm going to buy it because I can.

When it comes to boys and their toys who am I to argue.
3/4 of the crap I own I really don't need.

Thanks for all of your input.
It really did settle me down a bit

JasonJ
Now if it had been a boat.
I would have asked what all he was going to add on to it!

And your point is!

A fully rigged 21' Bass boat can ring the scales of upwards of $50,000.
