Holley balls, halls, ****bag, and a few other names from time to time. It's been hours and I already miss you terribly. Born about 14 years ago. I buried her today. I dug her hole a few weeks ago, 5 feet down. I played the waiting game. I work for myself so I can afford to take the time off. I have not worked in weeks, just hanging around the house, waiting for the "look" that I did not get untill yesterday. Funny thing about goldens.... they truely are puppys untill the very end.

I want to thank the Pepperell Veteninary hospital. This is were I have always taken Halls to. These folks are pro's. They have always been 100% honest with me. On top of that they are the most compassionate people you can find in this world. These folks are old school, old town, and all about familys.

A few years ago Dr. Bradbury Smith came to my house to put down Mischa, my lab/retriever mix. It was a while ago and can't really recall the specifics.
Dr. Smith also came to my home again today. I let him in to the front hallway where Holley was laying. He had her file and we talked for a few minutes about her health. He compassionatly reassured me of my decision. He shaved her back leg, we talked for another minute, then he put the needle in. Holley passed peacefully in my hands. Dr. Bradbury packed his things with a tear in his own eye but without saying a word and left. A true human. And I can't thank him enough. I'm irrevocably sad for my Holley. If your in Mass please see the Pepperall vets. I could kill a man with my bare hands if I had to, but this sucks..

Sorry for your loss man - Wife and I are both huge dog lovers. We have a beagle and a lab and I can't even bear to think about them getting old and leaving us.

Re: Holley

Very sorry for your loss. Goldens are wonderful dogs. I have a 10 year old cat that I just can't imagine not having around. I hope he lives for another 10.

Your vet sounds like a saint. I keep hearing stories from people about their vet recommending all kinds of rediculously expensive tests and treatments just to marginally increase a pet's life. We had a great vet for our dogs when I was growing up who was likewise caring and compassionate but he never lost sight of the fact that "it's a dog." We had a black lab that due to a mail trimming incident developed an infection in her toe. She walked around on 3 legs for weeks. The vet tried a couple different antibiotics but it didn't work. He suggested amputating the toe. My mom was horrified but he insisted the dog would never know the difference. He took the toe, we brought our dog home and she was back on 4 legs that day!

Again, sorry for your loss.

Re: Holley

my condolences too jj.

loosing your pet (your best friend) is one of the hardest things to have to deal with. i lost my Ziggy (he was a cat) a couple years ago. i cried for days i missed him so much. i should have have the nerve to put him down, but couldn't bring myself to it. i think you've done the compassionate thing. i know my Ziggy was feeling pretty bad when he passed. but i still couldn't bring myself to put him down though i'm sure that it would have been the thing to do. he did die in my hands though. and he knew it too. i'm sure Holley knew you were there too.. i'm sad for you. condolences for sure...

Re: Holley

I feel your pain, my friend. My wife and I had to put down our Houdini about three years ago. At the time my wife was 9 months pregnant. We put him down on Tuesday, and my youngest daughter was born that Thursday. We had him since my wife and I were married, and since we waited almost 11 years to have kids, he was our only family for a long time. He was our companion, our protector, and our friend.

I believe dogs to to heaven ;)

A very sad day indeed Jason. :(

We love them so much. They truly are our best friends, our confidant, our running buddy, our warm and cozy snuggler, our unconditional giver of love.

We are blessed for the time we share with them. My sincerest condolences.

Re: Holley

So sorry to hear your sad news. They are truly part of the family.
We currently have a Border Collie and a Beagle. Bailey the Border Collie is 9 and Brandy the Beagle is almost 3. They are both part of our family.
Our last Border Collie (Merlin) came to Canada with us when we emigrated from England. He was fully active till he was about 16 years old and then started slowing down. Finally had to have him put to sleep when he was almost 18. The entire Kenmyfamily was in mourning for a long time as he was older than all the five children at the time.
We still have the photos hanging up and some wonderful memories.
Treasure your memories and the heartache will get easier over time.

Re: Holley

deepest condolences.............This has been posted here before and will be again. Here it is for your time of need.:(:(:(

[SIZE=+1]Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Re: Holley

Put my 11 (we think) yr old Husky, Buka, down Saturday. Our family will never be the same. He was a great dog.

We rescued him from the pound almost 6 years ago. At the time he had lost alot of trust in humans, as he was clearly abused and neglected by his former owners. While he never fully learned to trust all people, he did learn to trust us and was a loving dog. My wife will never forget the time he bolted out the front door and led her and 4 police officers on a tour through town. Huskies LOVE to run! And Buka enjoyed the stop and go chase games :D

We will always miss our great friend.

You have lost a good friend. The best dog I ever had had 3 strokes within 24 hours. We put him to sleep the day before Thanksgiving. We were thankful for the 15 years he was with us.

Re: Holley

My sympathy goes out to you. No matter how or when it happens the loss of a pet always tears at your heart and soul. Most recently, I received a phone call from my wife to tell me our middle son's pet rabbit had died. He was very attatched to this rabbit and it was the first pet of his to die. I dreaded going home to deal with the situation, because like most everyone, I lost a pet when I was young. When I got home, my son insisted that he helped bury her. As he help dig the hole tears streamed down his face with every shovel full of dirt. This just twisted me all up, and brought back all of the memories of when I lost my dog at that age. It was almost 25 years ago and it felt like it was happening right then. As we finished up, my son was able to get control and say a few words to his pet. I was proud of him.

In short, I am extremely sorry for your loss. But remember, no matter how much time passes, your memory will always keep your companion alive and wll in your heart.
