clean the area with M E K solvent, repair with fiberglass matt from the inside first. cover outside with wax paper taped in place with metal tape over it, after it hardens remove metal tape from outside and wax paper, clean with m e k and grind area to a taper then repair with fiberglass matt, cover with wax paper and smooth it out let it dry and sand it , smooth it out with fiberglass body filler and sand it again then re finish it with gelcoat, if you can't shoot gel coat use a good automotive primer and sand it then shoot it with a good paint but the paint will eventually wear off.The hole will stay fixed though, do not cut the matt when you use it ,,tear the edges to avoid making any edge lines, tearing it feathers the edges. use a fiberglass roller over the wax paper when you smooth it out ,if you don't have a ribbed roller use something even a soft body filler spreader to smooth it out and remove the small air holes. makes it easier to sand and feather the glass when it hardens.

Jeff provides some good advice for thru the hull hole repair. You did not indicate for sure if the hole goes all the way through the hull. If not, clean thoroughly with solvent and fill with Marine Tex. Sand flush with wet-sand paper, dry completely, and clean area with acetone. I prefer to use Gel Coat applications over the epoxy fill. It serves as primer and paint...and it will not peel or separate from the hull. It's easy if your hull is white, black or one of the other colors it comes in, otherwise it needs to be tinted. The Gel Coat will need to be protected from air contact as Jeff suggests using wax paper. I prefer the spray agent that can be washed off after the patch has dried (cured).

If the hole IS through hull, you can still use Marine Tex, it is an epoxy filler that is far superior to automotive body filler. Stay away from automotive products when making repairs to watercraft, they are simply not formulated to stand up to marine conditions.
