use a deep socket one end on flywheel other on block
remove spark plug and insert some clothes line rope into cylinder and that will stop flywheel from turning,when done back the flywheel up and remove rope.
Yes one end of the like 3/4 inch deep socket in the flywheel teeth and the other end somewhere against the engine block

I took a prybar, wedged it between the starter, flywheel and starter bracket. PULL, Click click, Click click.
I've had my Flywheel nut come loose on my motor.. New lock nut as well.. Buy some thread locker and use it. Hasn't come loose yet.
I use a ?? thick flat aluminum bars with holes to fit over 2 of the pull start nuts. Break-over off and torque on. W/O the bar touching the socket. JOW

I don't have to worry about the rose damaging anything while under stress? Is there anything for the rope to get caught on and not come out?

i use an impact gun, no effort involed
