i turned a ski boat into a fishing boat, the i/o and lower unit was trashed. i rebuilt the boat from a few differant boats, i'm almost done and my son had taken apart the shifter, thinking he was helping me, and forgetting how it went together. the motor 90hp and shifter came from an older 1971 or in that area. also need to know the mechanics of the shifter works. thank you.

You need to provide more information. Model and serial # of the motor. Do you know the manufacturer of the controller? You may be able to call the mfr and get instructions. If they don't have one for that specific controller, they may have one similar that could work. Worst case you could buy a used one on e-bay. I bought a Morse for about $100 from Great Lakes Skipper. Called Morse and they faxed the instructions.
