Hello again,...
after the first 50hrs of operation of my new 350mag mpi (cat), i still use the 19p aluminium prop.
The boat hits 56-58mph@gps and the engine reaches 4900-5050rpm depending load.
AM i crazy that i am trying to hit 60mph with aluminium prop?:D :)?
With this prop, the boat can not trim up almost at all. The smartcraft trim gauge has 0-5-10 scale with the 5-straight position, and all i can trim is till 6 and nothing changes. After 7, the prop looses the thrust! Besides, the boat's handling is a lot worst that with 22p Enertia. This prop gives me the impression that because of the material, can not handle 300hp and can not push a boat to 60mph.
In the other hand, the 22P enertia hits again 56-58mph and 4400-4500rpm. But the handling i a lot better, and i can trim till the end 10 and the prop still pushes! According the service manual, using a big prop (overpitched) that does not allow the engine to reach the manufacture's wot 4800-5200rpm, has a result of performance lost and the engine operates with bigger load!
The prop selector of mercury site, giving the current performance with the current prop (22p) and with this engine (350 mag mpi cat) suggests 19-20p with 62,1mph@gps! I have three points....
Firstly, do you agree that it is out of question , useless, to talk about speeds of 60+mph and aluminium prop?...
Secondly, what prop do you thing i should use on my boat? 19,20,21p?
Third,...I already have an 21P Tempest that i used before 22ss Enertia, which i will test at the next days. Do you thing that this will go better that the 22p,.....i am just asking because Tempest has bigger diameter that Enertia and so bigger load, ...but lower pitch.....we willl see!!!It will be interesting to trying this! What do you thing??

I think you need to go enjoy your boat.
SS wheels typically have a cupped or double cupped blades.

I already enjoy my boat.....i really love it and especially my totaly new engine with all the new staff......
But i also want the engine to operate properly and give me the maximum!!!!!
And i think that i have wrong propeller......and just because propeller is a little bit expensive, i make all the test i can do with the props i already have and i just ask the opinion of you....
Thank you very much.....

I've never seen a speed limit or max. recommended for aluminum props.
There are boats made entirely of aluminum that can do 60.

In my opinion the aluminum is ok. Its a matter of prefernce. If you want a little better hole shot drop the pitch 2" and go with a 4 blade. As far as going 60 goes, thats cool but if take on air which is rare prepare to literally fly. I wouldn't recommend that speed with a full load of people.

4bld will give the most control in most cases...if you just want to break 60 mph forget the alum and go SS in a prop design suitable for your style of boat-which you didn't mention that I saw. The Enertia and Tempest props are 2 very different designs made for 2 different style of boat and if the Tempest DOESN'T cause porpoising at high trim levels, I'll be surprised. Test what ya got, find the 1 that handles best, buy the same prop in a pitch that puts you in the higher end of the rpm range and do as rodbolt says and go enjoy your boat! :)))))

That is what i'll do. Test the Tempest, compare the handling between Tempest - Enertia, just to define the type of the new prop (as far as i remember, Enertia was better), and go to 20p. By the way, my boat is a Wllcraft Nova Spyder 202 (22deg deadrise) and i really love the way it runs at 58mph (till now).................I want to go 60+!!!!!!!

Re: Hitting 60mph@gps with aluminium prop?....no way!!

Yesterday i tried the 21P Tempest. Result 59mph@gps@4600. I did not like the way it handled the boat at that speed. The Enertia was FAR BETTER at that speed! I could not realize how much can a prop define the handling of a boat......
Finally i am sure that the prop i should buy is an Enertia 20P. With it i believe the engine will reach 61+mph@5000-5100rpm.
Next year....i am running out of money.......:) :(!!
