Does anyone have experience in getting more power ot ouf 2-stroke Tohatsu 18hp? Even couple of more horsepowers would help....
The model is not a "smaller version" of 25-30 hp.

Actually, TK, a couple more horsepower probably wouldn't help enough to notice.

In boats there is much more potential to improve performance by working on the hydrodynamics of the hull and motor, fine tuning prop selection, reducing and distributing weight and adding a hydrofoil or trim tabs.

Tell us what boat you have your Tohatsu on. There are several guys here who can give you some good advice on what you can do.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

It's a 380m inflatable (not RIB). I just asked about information where to get a propeller with more progressive pitch because I can't find it here in Finland.

I can use up to 30hp in my boat so I could make use of more power... The most important thing is to get rpms lower because I usually have a light load and the boat weights only 65 kg.

But if there is an easy way to get some knots more speed with trim tabs attached on the outboard etc, hints are more than welcome. I can't work on the hull though ;-)

What prop are you running now? Do you have access to a tach to check your RPM's? Perhaps filling the raft with helium will add a knot or two. :D

Sorry, TK. Except to caution you against trying to increase the power of your engine, you are outside my experience. If you must have more power, it is easier and less expensive to go to a larger engine.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)
