I tring to see if anyone has advice on why the hinge pins are threading in so far. The pins are going in so far their touching the bellow. Also the hinge pins are threaded in so far that the trim sensors can not set into the hinge pin. I do not see where the problem is. Has anyone seen this before?

There should be a fiber washer on each side between gimbal ring and bell housing

What year is the boat?

Thank you for the message. I have a 2000 Mariah 302z. There are fiber washers. The fiber washers are in perfect condition, I went to Ace Hardware and purchased 5/8 stainless steel washer. I was able to use the stainless steel washers as a shim on both sides. Those washers filled the gap between the bell housing and the gimble ring. The hinge pins are now flush for the sensors to catch the hing pins.

Did or does your trim sending units have the grease zerk fittings?
Was there any previous work done of your knowledge to the ring, hinge pins, bellhousing area that had some changes to possibly wrong parts used or other parts forgotten.

The hinge pin itself (and ring #27 vs old #1) changed design as noted by item number 5 vs 28 plus you'd need the bushing #29 and the washer in question 30 with the new vs older setup..., https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassemblydetail/46516836/28171024

Anyway, though years ago now but your scenario dose sound familiar of knowing about that possibility have happening... Glad you found it and was able to remedy it.(y)
