Hi all,

All the videos I have watched people remove the hinge pins once the outdrive is removed and have a heck of a time trying to hold the bell housing to loosen the bolts. Can I loosen the hinge pins before removing the outdrive and then remove the hinge pins completely once the outdrive has been removed?

Yes you can break them loose from their torque before removing the drive but they will still offer you some resistance due to the Loctite 271 Threadlocker that's applied.

Perfect thanks!. Any tips on replacing the oil line? I've heard people say not to change it, but mine is starting to deteriorate, so its going to have to be replaced.

What year is the transom assembly?

If you have the composite material that goes through the transom, you'll want to try and be extra careful as the plastic tends to break off very easily. If you can get in there, try cutting/splicing open the old hose in order to remove it. Then be sure to lube the fitting and inside hose to try and carefully reinstall the new hose.... Quicksilver power tune used on the rubbers before installation has been known to be pretty helpful. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mercury+power+tune

1998 transom production: Oil reservoir bulkhead fitting in the gimbal housing will change from a brass material to a glass filled composite material.

Then turn 'em out with a 1/2" allen key,.....

for the oil line I used the line below. Warm it up in hot water for 10 seconds. [h=1]Raider 714B-5 1/4" 5' Roll Fuel Line[/h]
