I just obtained at a cheap price what I've been able to figure with some help is a 1968 Hiliner 21, with a Holman-Moody setup consisting of a Ford 289 and a Volvo 270 outdrive. This is the first inboard/outboard I've owned. It hasn't been run for about 5 years. The motor and sterndrive turn over when I put a jumper to the starter to test them. I'm going to flush the engine and change all the fluids, filters, etc, then see if it will start. I would appreciate any imput as to other things I should do, or any info about the Hiliners. There is a shortage of info about them other than their history. I would be interested in anyones experience with the boat or this power setup. Thanks

Re: Hiliner 21

I would start by using marval mystery oil in all the cylinders first. Let it soak for a day or more and attempt to hand turn the engine with the plugs out. Then I would do the oil change.

Check your lower unit oil and impellar - replace both before you start it. It would not be healthy to start it and not have cooling.

Clean the ignition system and replace the fuel filters, clean the carb, fresh gas and get ready to start it!

I am not familiar with your set up but it is the same proceedure for most.
