High RPMs on hose adapter

1988 Evinrude xp 150
Have not had this boat on the water yet.
With the engine running on the hose adapter the engine iidles about 1200 RPMs. Is this a little high or will it slow down once in rhe water. I can't hardly start it with the warm up lever up due to the even higher RPMs.

yes it will but maybe not that much, you might need to reduce the timing advance

1200 while sitting on the trailer is about right. But you will want to verify actual rpm's when prop exhaust is 20" under water. Set the idle when the boat is floating normally in the lake and shifted into forward gear. Set it for 650-700 rpm's.
