I'm having an issue with the fuel system on my 2005 60 hp four stroke Mercury motor. I've been doing a lot of reading and see the electric pump referred to as the high pressure pump and the lift pump!! I see a mechanical (?) pump down line in the system that I'm assuming to be the high pressure pump and the electric pump is the lift pump. It seems we ain't all singing out of the same book. Which one is which? many thanks

On my 2006 Mercury 90, the mechanical fuel pump is the lift pump and the electric fuel pump is the high pressure pump. Of course mine is a Yamaha head so it could be completely different than yours.

I highly suggest purchasing a Mercury OEM service manual if you don't already have one.

I agree with Bruce. The mechanical pump is the lift pump. The high pressure pump is the electric one, witch is similar to the ones in newer cars.
