High HP and hull integrity?

On my bayliner, I consider the engine power to be impressive as to me I have not been on anything faster. Im sure many are laughing to themselves saying, "this boy has no clue what power is!"

Anyways, the V8 305 is 200 HP and I assume power is transfered to the transom and into the floor mounts / hull. What are the chances of cracking out the mountings on a factory engine and original rot free hull? The power it has almost feels stressful on the hull.

I try to ease into the power, but man is it fun to nail it! If I have to be easy on it so be it.

Most of your engine to hull problems will come from the engine torque working against the motor mounts pads that are glassed to the stringers. As long as there is no rot there or any other stress cracks, you should be fine. When the boat was built, they rated it depending on a number of things, and part of it was how the pads would respond to the constant torque of the engine on those pads.

Take a good look at yours. As long as the glass around the mounts is solid and the bolts are tight, you should be fine. If you try to turn the bolts and they spin, you have a problem. Also ensure your mounts are in good shape because worn/deteriorated rubber will allow more engine movement.

Where did you hear that a 1990 Bayliner was a rot free hull?

I think he meant that his particular hull has no rot, not that a 1990 Bayliner hull was incapable of rotting.
