I used my 88 Merc 70 HP last week for the 1st time in about 4 years. I had gotten it ready and she seems to run fine. I think I have a problem with the charging rate. I have 2 new batteries, a Starting and a Deep Cycle. The charge rate shows good, about 14.5 volts, when I get to a running speed 3000 to 4000 RPM. After running about 15 minutes the rate has crawled up to 16 volts or maybe more since that about pegs the gauge. I tried the other battery with same results. If the motor is off for 5 minutes or so, it starts over at 14.5 and does the same thing. Its been a long time since I used this boat but I don't remember this high a charge rate. Do I have a charging problem or just a Memory Problem??? I will just forget it if it's a memory problem and keep on fishing or what ever I went out there to do.
