New to the forum, but frequent "guest" of the site. I'm from Michigan and grew up sailing the Great Lakes with my grandpa, who was an avid sailor and fisherman. He also had boats and houses on the Atlantic coast and the Caribbean, so I had a great exposure to ocean sailing too. The Great Lakes are no joke either, though; a lot of professional captains/sailors have sunk their ships there. I kept sailing long after those days with him.

My retirement goal was to buy a sailboat, sail across the Atlantic and spend a few years in the Mediterranean and then continue east until I reached New Zealand. No matter what, I really wanted to cross either the Pacific, or the Atlantic, before I die. I've been working super hard to make it happen. I started a tree service in Connecticut and built it into a pretty successful business. Never made enough to sit behind a desk, or retire early, I wouldn't even want to either, but made enough to support 4-5 guys with good enough pay to support their families, and some younger kids working to save up for cars and teenager stuff. About seven years ago, I gave the business to my employees (they are actually more like family than anything else). This happened pretty suddenly, so my sailing plans pretty much vanished suddenly too.

With the circumstances I am in now, it is still possible that I can do at least an Atlantic Ocean crossing, or, a sail around the Caribbean. So, I’d like to start a dialog with some good folks about how I could make this happen. This is really awkward for me, so I figured the best way to go about it, is to just put it out there like this, but save any private stuff for the private massages.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope you all have a great 4[SUP]th[/SUP] of July weekend the best you can with this crazy situation we are all in now.

Welcome aboard ... I'll be watching with interest. The admiral doesn't care for sailing, but I did quite a bit when I was younger.
