Hi

My name is Austin, I have been coming to this site for quite sometime now even before registering (was a heck of a time seperating new and old post when not an offical memeber)

Married (Angela), two kids- son(7 Anakin) daughter(6 Anastasia). I homeschool the two of them.

Been around boats my whole life growing up. But when my grandfater died it was something I really didnt want to go back to. But since I have kids now, and they are the perfect age to get started into getting a boat. So have been saving to buy a new boat with cash (dont want to give those blood sucking vampire banks anymore money) Was actually told from a dealer at a show the other day that if I paid cash I would not get as good of a deal like I would if I got a loan. Yeah, I know they are trying to make as much money as they can, but dont tell customers crap like that. (who in there right mind would take out a loan just because they would take a few bucks off the sticker price)

Have learned so much from my grandfather, and coming to this site, I have refreshed and learned more. Wife and I have went through the courses also. I know how you like to tell everyone that :D. My wife wasnt lucky enough to grow up camping and boating like I was.

We are looking, well more me then anything at Centurion, Nautiques. My wife likes those and Yamaha, and Sea Doos. All four for the safety reason. Growing up and camping every weekend on lakes, I made the mistake of telling my wife all about the accidents I have seen with props. So my wife really likes the Jet Drives.

Well, nice to finally post on here. Felt it was time, since we are almost taking the plunge.

Oh yeah, if you could tell by my screen name and my sons name, I am a huge Star Wars nut.

Re: Hi All

sounds like it's time to carry on grandad's ways to me. carry on the tradition.
ya might enjoy this.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeE92WVe_so

i am anyways. got my start with boats on my grandad's boat too.

looks like yer getting your plan together for a boat too. cool. the modern jets are pretty darn nice. aren't the centurion and nautiques inboards with props though? granted the jets are inboards too. i was just thinking if yer wanting to beach. a real inboard may be cumbersome doing that with the prop fixed below the hull and them little fins on the keel that some of them have. i like to beach and camp too. nothing under the hull or being able to raise the drive would be beneficial for that i'd think.
great that ya've taken the classes and welcome to a great place to hang out and talk boats.

welcome, i see one problem, if you are wanting to camp off the boat, the nautique, and centurion, are both inboards. you will have a hard time beaching these. i think, you are looking at jets or inboards.

my experience with Jets is leave the Seadon'ts at the dealers, yamaha are much more dependable.

Re: Hi All

Sorry, I didnt mean actually camping off a boat. I meant campgrounds around the lakes. Yeah, I worded that pretty weird.

Anyways, thanks for the welcomes.

Re: Hi All

Welcome aboard, Austin. It really depends on where you are boating and what you are planning on doing with the boat as to the best engine for the boat. I just deleted a whole list of pros and cons for the different engines on a boat because you didn't really ask for anyones opinion!

My first boat was my grandpa's tinny with a 3.9hp Black Anchor. I inherited it after he passed away and I am still enjoying the sport he got me interested in 43 years ago!
