So run up not firing 3 or 4 I’m off with having hip replacement done so loads of time to think my fear is if I have a stator trigger or rectifier fault I was thinking of changing the leads on cdi packs but reading if there was a problem with above could blow cdi so are there test procedures I can carry out without risk of damage to components can cdi unfits be tested more help please

Your post didn't make much sense??
Is your motor missing on #3 and 4?
Use a good spark tester:1644753030273.png
Missing both on 3/4 sounds like the pack might be bad?
Try swapping them around and see if #1/2 start missing?
IF?? #3 or #4 is missing check the trigger leads, they are very thin and break under the glue on the connector.
When asking questions? always include the year, horsepower, model and any other info that might help ID your motor.

Sorry Jerry and all thought what wrote was all linked together as in all my posts rolled one after the other. to start I originally had misfire went thru all tests swapping packs etc replaced recirc system overhauled carbs new gaskets starter fluid test took off transfer port covers noticed piece of ring missing result 2 new pistons rings rebuild loads of Truma with parts stuck California etc so a year on rebuilt back on boat running but with cylinder 3 & 4 misfire as I said I’m out of action after hip operation so bags of reading time which is where I read if I had bad rectifier trigger or stator it could risk cdi if swapped.1989 force 125 on which Jerry yourself and red Barron answered questions on. Over a year out of water due to circumstances starting to get a bit frustrated with the old girl thanks all for taking time to read

Missing on 3-4
Try swapping the packs, check the grounds.
I have a #12 wire about 14" long with alligator clips that I use as a temporary ground .

After switching packs and the miss goes to the other 2 plugs???
I'd say the pack needs replacing.
Swap all the wires and then check the results.

So please to clarify if I have another problem ie stator.trigger.rectifier.can that damage my good cdi if I swap it over to cyl number 3&4 is there not a test I can carry out to prove these parts instead of risking a known good cdi by connecting it to a maybe bad system ????

It shouldn't hurt anything if you swap the packs.
The damaged pack will show the 1/2 cyl. missing.
Done it a hundred times with no damage.

Thanks Jerry just wanted to make sure as money fast running out on this one price starts real good in states but by the time it gets to uk the tax is eye watering.also since brexit our usual states to uk post has deteriorated to a farce as I say I had some pistons stuck California near to 3 months only then to find they were wrong size boxed wrong

Is the wiring diagram on the motor gone?
Maybe someone with a 125 that has the diagram can take a pic of it?

That's an aftermarket part.
Does it say CDI? Yes? then contact them for wiring instructions.

Hi so still on this rectifier 89 125hp force definitely not aftermarket part I’ve owned this from brand new and up until rebuild it’s had one coil 1 thermostat set of carb gaskets few fuel pump diaphragms and an impeller kit every year only ever maintained by myself so I know everything this one has ever had.just a shame that shop manual is hopeless otherwise I would be there by now I have since found correct order for trigger from a cdi diagram on net but i cannot find anything anywhere ref this rectifier wiring

The factory rectifier is a small block about 1 1/4 X 1 1/4inches it has 4 posts.
It's made with 4 posts and no wires from the posts but other wires go to the posts..1648718128181.pngYour's look like this?

Hi Jerry thanks for patients apparently mine shares loom colour and rectifier from slightly later 120 hp it’s similar to picture you posted except mine has threaded posts with nuts on as I say red black no problem that then leaves two posts both marked ac for two green with yellow trace one white wire that comes over from cdi and one mauve which is tach wire the wires are from loom and go to rectifier by means of post with nut to lock down wires

You should have 2 LONG leads off the stator, can be the same color, they go to the rec.

The white leads goes to the bus bar.

I'll look tomorrow and see if the parts bin can show the wiring hooked to the rectifier?

Hi and thanks for reply I have the rectifier wiring sorted now but still may need some ignition stuff as still have spark non start issue before non start issue it was running on cyl 1 & cyl 2 so went to back of cdi and swapped out firing leads from 1&2 to 3&4 it back fired and done nothing swapped back and it has not fired since using a spark tester I wind it in to the smallest gap and it just barely sparks 1 & 2 nothing on 3&4 every now and then if you wind spark tester so tip is touching it fires but don’t know which cyl it fires I’ve disconnected rectifier wiring and the stop wires from cdi packs still nothing so more investigation required all the best dave 125

Hi Jerry yes it goes as you explained that’s all sorted and I’m back to where it all started with first. Which lost spark on 3&4 so I hooked up coil firing leads from 1&2 to 3&4 it backfired and nothing else since I switched back I have no spark 3&4 and the weakest spark ever on 1&2 on which engine would run previous but now doesn’t even fire so in my ignorance I’m assuming that whatever I have wrong has now popped the good cdi unless I’m missing something.which by the way would not come as a surprise no I’m joking I’ve check wire location trigger location must close to twenty times.ive disconnected cdi stop wires and disconnected rectifier wiring but that makes no difference I’ll report in when I’ve looked some more in mean while any suggestions greatly appreciated thanks Dave
