Hi all, newbie to boating and iBoats with question about AlphaOne seal...

Hi all, I'm a newbie to boating and this site. I just purchased my first boat today, a 1988 Raven 195cc with a 3.0 Mercruiser and AlphaOne outdrive. I live in the Hudson Valley area of NY, Kingston, to be exact. I have a question that I'm hoping someone could help me out on. I have a small oil leak coming out of the weep hole on the outdrive and was told by previous owner it needs a seal, he just wasn't sure which one. He said it might be a drive shaft oil seal or another one that I can't remember right now. Is it likely the whole outdrive will have to be removed? Just hoping anyone with similar experiences could shed some light on the subject.

The only way to find what is leaking is to pull the outdrive, drain the gear lube, and do a pressure check of the drive to see where the leak is.

Ok, thanks Don. One other question, what does the trim system take for fluid? Is it ATF, or SAE 30, kinda hearing conflicting information. Thanks...

Mercruiser uses engine oil. At least that is what they call for in all the owners and service manuals. But who knows what some previous owner put in it. Is it the color of oil or red like ATF?
