Spider lake is small with unimproved campsites (primitive) and a ramp, it is situated in the middle of Foothills state forest. 10 miles southwest of pine river Mn. First come first serve mostly tents. I also here good things about a campsite 15 miles east of Crosslake Mn I forgett the name however I think it is geared towards smaller RV's and pickup campers, never been there though but would be glad to check it out for you.

I friend of Mine just got back from outing mn and i will ask him the details.

What kind of facilities do you want, I will be out of pocket till Tomarrow.

Ps If your tenting, I am a monitor on 3 islands that make up a county park located in the middle of Whitfish Chain It is a larger lake with Quite a bit of traffic but the Islands are nice with 11 campsites, 2 islands with 1 campsite each and one large island with two diffrent camping areas Firewood provided.

Steamboat Lake is about 2,000 Acres and not alot of boat traffic..Plenty of fish but not known for the gators..Friend on mine owns only resort on Lake..From there your within half hour of two of the greatest Muskie Lakes in the North..about 31/2 hours from your start...Let me know and I see if he has any openings...Cass Lake and Leech Lake all have Many sites to choose from....
Now I'm a little jealous cause you are going there and i'm stuck here.....Maybe Neumans can put you on some good spots..I know for sure he has the record for anchor catches in the north..lol

Got there late no one was around. Bout 30 miles north of Brainerd on Hwy 371 is Jenkins and Pine river. The Whitefish Chain is Just to the East it is considered 13 lakes although some run together.

The Islands are in Upper Whitfish and are county owned. There are pleanty of ramps to Choose from but I would recomend the one at Delta Bay or Perhaps Driftwood Resort for an extended stay (for security vs leaving car at public ramp)

Two small Island are 3 acres or less and only have one campsite each. These are my personal favorites but since they are first come first serve they usally go First. The big Island has nine campsites and 3 of the nine are are just plain Ideal not to sell the others short. They are operated for donations no set fee. These sites are Primative all have firewood and fire rings and outhouse acess Beyound that bring what you need including Toilet paper.

The fishing is just that, Some days are better than others. Species include Walleyes, Northerns, Bass and panfish, sorry no Muskies in this Lake.

The Biggest draw back is the Pesky locals that hangout at Iboats, they may pop in at any time for Fishing and are lickly to bring his kids with.

And thanks to Gonfishn I even know two or three likley muskie spots within an hour (I dont know much about the camping around there though)That I would be glad to pass along or perhaps depending on the days may be available to go for a half day or more.

You would be more than welcome to Grab showers etc at my place (4-5 miles by road)

As for the anchor's that Gonfishin refers to Well all the best spots that I know have already been fished out (I did get a 28 Pounder this spring with 30' of 3/8 line almost new still had the bar code on it) but I may know where one is reasting in davey jones locker at about 6 feet (seen her this spring) but no line and she appeared to be an older model, may still be there as we all know anchors love water.

Let me Know when your coming I will get you more details as needed.

Re: hey neumanns or gonfishing

Give this anymore thought? Last night about 6pm we decided to load up the boat and went out there we were back by 9 this am. Campfire -smores- kids- fishing- camping- etc. So close to home yet none of the worries, seamed like a whole nuther world. If anyone could use this kind of therapy it is you my friend! Being out there made me wonder about ya.
