recently got a1999 bf50(sold new in 2001)<br />when it was rigged i asked about maintenance<br />as this is the first 4-stroker on the boat.<br /><br />mechanic said change the engine oil and the gear oil once a year(or every 100 hours)<br />and thats it!<br /><br />this seems minimal to me, but maybe he's right ?<br /><br />any tips to keep the motor running long and well ?<br /><br />Thanks

Welcome to the boards Scottyc!<br /><br />Dont forget the water pump impeller. You want to change that occasionally too. If you run in muddy/silty or otherwise "dirty" water, you'll want to do it yearly. If you only run in clear clean water, then inspect yearly and replace every 2-3 years. <br /><br />If you go to honda's web site (www.honda-marine.com) and look in the owners section, you can see the owners manual on-line. <br />You will need the serial number off of the engine since the manuals are listed by model then by serial number. In the manual, you can get the exact maintenance schedule.<br /><br />Enjoy the engine, its a great little machine!<br /><br />Nav :cool:
