Hey Glastron owners, how are your boats doing. I bought my GX 185 at the end of this summer and have used it a bunch with no problems. I just had it out Saturday, as a matter of fact, just riding around, enjoying the lake.

Mine was a new 2001, but I still have the full factory warranty and I wondered if anyone has had any touble with theirs. I wanted to know if there is anything I should be watching out for before my warranty expires. So far, I've had zero problems.

:)

BTW, I really appreciate all of the sound advice I've received from this board. I launched Saturday by myself without a hitch and I learned all of my technique right here. I had the kids, but they can only do so much and I keep them away from the water until we're getting in the boat.

Has anybody go the winter blah's as bad as I do?

Chris

Re: Hey Glastron Owners

I have the winter blahs real bad. I just purchased a used Hydro-Hoist boat lift and am configuring the bunks to fit my Splendor Cat tunnel hull. I have cleaned the boat several times since storing it and just like to sit in it and listen to the radio when I am down at the boat. I am ready to get out and buy some large quantities of gas for $1.75 a gallon...lol

I got real lucky and found this used Hydro-Hoist on Ebay and it didnt sell for what he wanted so I called him after the auction closed and was able to buy it off him "post" auction for what I wanted to pay for it. I love Ebay for curing the winter blahs....

That makes me feel better. I thought I might be the only one sitting in his/her boat listening to the radio. Mine's on a trailer in the driveway so the neighbors think I'm insane. LOL

Chris

Re: Hey Glastron Owners

Our 2002 GX205 is doing great - except its tucked in for winter and I really want to go boating.

Only problem I've had with ours is the bilge blower switch went bad. I temporary rewired to the courtesy lights (the aisle type lights for the cockpit) until dealer mailed me a new switch. I replaced and mailed bad one back to them. Didn't see need to tow boat 2hrs to dealer for simple replacement. Other than that, no problems.

My two 1976 'trons ae still kicking if those count. Just finished rebuilding one fromn the ground up after the previous owner left it sitting out uncovered for years. The other was kept in a storage rack for most of its life and the interior looks 1-2 years old instead of 30.

My winter blah's are so bad, I have started shipping money off to buy boat parts. This years upgrades include new steering, control cables, and some trailer refurb that all need to happen before spring.

Be sure to make motor noises by mouth if you do this...and turn the steering now and then for good measure. :D :D :D

Have a 74 Bayflite that wishes it was warm, too. Actually I love the little girl but not big enough for my family so the wife MAY make me sell her in a couple months. Love the Glastrons. no problem from the 30 year old girl since buying her 2 years ago.

NCOffSeason,
I'm in central GA and Hartwell is a long haul. I have heard lots of good things about Hartwell though. I hope to make a trip up there this summer. Two different friends (that don't even know each other) have been and liked it a lot. Both rented cabins in the Ga State Park up there.

Re: Hey Glastron Owners

I have some family in Alabama and I was thinking of renting a cabin or house for all of us and we could have a family get together on the lake. I would really like to rent a house boat!

That drive would be somewhat equal for all of us. Man, I can't wait for warm weather.

Re: Hey Glastron Owners

My wifeand I bought a glastron 175sx last year at the boat show( Her choice) after I had to put abot $1200.00 into our bluewater. She wanted something reliable to pull the kids in a tube, ski, kneeboard ect. We went with the Mercruiser 4.3L upgrade. We put 18 hours on it and took it in for the 20 hour service. They replaced the bilge pump switch and faulty alarm horn. I added a hour meter right after that and we now have 108 hours on the boat. I love it it was the best choice she could have made. Our main concern was it had to fit in out garage. My son who is 3 years old was made for the water. He yells at you if you don't put on your lifevest. He's always ready to pull the fenders out when it's time to dock. I think by the time he's 6 the only thing I'll have to do is relax. We also spend time in the garage pretending. Anyway Yesterday it was sunny no wind and 60 degrees so we took her out for a couple of hours. Just cruised out into sanfransisco bay looked at the big ships and had lunch. It was great. I was starting to go crazy from the rain and cold we've been having.

Bluewater, that sounds like us. My son just turned 8 yesterday and I have an 11 year old daughter and they love boating. We went out Saturday to ride around even though it was only in the mid-forties. It was great to be on the water and they love "going fast". We also love to pull the kids on the tube (heck, I love riding the tube!). Best family money I ever spent.

Happy Boating and here's to a quick return to warm weather.

Thats is my feeling exactly!!! Its really given us something to enjoy all together!

Bluewater19,
Do you do anything special beside freshwater flush after going in bay? I've wanted to take our boat to Ga coast but really am not excited about dipping it into salt water.

Re: Hey Glastron Owners

I live about 2 miles from the ramp at pierce harbor and it gets kind mucky there at low tide. So I take my muffs and a soft brissle brush on a broom handle and clean the hull while I'm flushing the engine. This is a private launch and they let you use the water in the parking lot to flush your motor.Takes a couple of minutes and the most people I have ever seen there at one time launching and retriving is three so it is pretty laid back. I really like the 185gx by the way I only wish it would have fit in my garage!!! My only gripe about our glastron 175 is no cleat on the bow for anchoring. I'm thinking of adding one any thoughts? Also Do you guys think your boats are fast? How do the bigger boats perform? I have had mine up past 55 on the gps by my self and it is freakin scary!!It felt like the only part of the boat in the water was the prop. I complained they didn't offer my boat with the 220 mpi when we got it and after I broke the motor in and did a couple of speed runs I found out why.. That VEC hull really flys!

Re: Hey Glastron Owners

I've got the same anchor cleat problem an the GX205. I take a short rope with clip on each end and connect one to the bow eye trailer strap goes on. After getting anchor set and proper scope set out, I tie a loop (lineman loop I think is name for it) in the anchor rope and connect the other clip to it. Works OK but have though about adding a popup cleat right in middle of bow running on centerline of boat. Figure the popup would look better when not being used.

Oh, on speed, I've only hit 50mph once with me and a friend on board. We usually have 2 or 4 adults and 4 kids on board and one of the adults (wife) doesn't like the WOT speed. We normally just cruise in the mid 30's.

Re: Hey Glastron Owners

I agree with needing a front cleat, but I like the clean lines without it. I looked at a few brands that had one right up front and it kinda stuck out.

I had mine up to 55 this past Saturday with my kids (they love to go fast). I think I could have squeezed a few more MPH but that was fast enough for me. I'm with HotByte, I like cruising in the 30 - 35 MPH range. But, it will sure jump up and run when I want it to!

Chris

Re: Hey Glastron Owners

why did I buy my boat in the middle of winter!!, makes it go by all that more slowly!!. My justification for it was I could find a better deal because of less shopers, Spring time is peak season and I figure everything is at its prime price, Just want the lake to thaw here in PA
