If my hub is "spun", will i notice wear or a smoothness to the teeth/sprocket or is there something internal? I pulled the prop and compared with a spare I did have, and they both look good and tight when i put them back on.

spun hub is seperation of the rubber sandwiched between the hub the part with the splines ....and the outer blade part of your prop....if this comes unbonded it allows the prop shaft and hub to spin but blades stay relatively still.......

Thanks crazyray...I thought of that right after posting this. That's got to be it.

Howdy, Dawgfish. Someimes a spun hub will nearly fall out of the prop when you take it off. That kind will barely move the boat and allow the engine to rev freely.

Others only slip when under full power and are hard to tell from cavitation or ventilation. Sometimes visual inspection of these shows nothing obviously wrong. The most reliable way to diagnose these is to put on your spare and do the same thing at the same degree of trim and get no slip.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB
