I decided I am going to get the 5HP 2 stroke Merc. I called this one dealer that actually spent the most time with me, and he recommended 2 strokes all along, and everything he said earlier ended up being right. I should have listened to him. He is the one that said that idling the 4 strokes too low all the time isn't good, and that he didn't like them, and there was debate on that in these forums, but other than that, the rest of what he said turned out true. But anyways, I am replacing an old 5 HP from a few years ago, and this thing may be noisy, but I really don't care. If I am on a great big lake, its not quiet and peaceful out there anyways! If I'm on a tiny lake, I will use the electric. For the few times I go trolling, this should be fine. And at only 45 pounds, I can even throw my little 12 footer in the back of the truck, and still be able to lift this motor up and lay it inside the boat. The simpler the motor, the less there is to go wrong with it besides right? Besides, that was kind of a pain having to deal with only laying or carrying the motor with one side down so the oil doesn't leak. And $1100 seems very cheap to me right now!! I want to go fishing this weekend, and I will end up selling the other one whether it is tomorrow or a couple months from now, so I guess there is no need to wait to sell it first. And this time I am going to bring the boat in there and set it up on the bracket first to make sure its long enough and everything! Not gonna make the same mistake twice. I see tons of these little Mercs on boats so they must be pretty decent. Looks like the design hasnt changed in years. By the way, this is a Yamaha dealer besides and he just told me to list it in the paper for $300-$400 less than I paid for it cause he can't give me much for it right now. Well I think I will be happy with this decision. I thought about a used one, but I'm already gonna be wasting some money, may as well just get a new one that in 20 or 30 years will still be running great! Sound good to you guys?
