I got to meet Caroll Shelby and Herb Mccandless at the Goodguys hotrod show about 10 years ago. I waited until the crowd disbursed and got to shoot the BS with them for about an hour. Really, really interesting guys. Also met John Lingenfelter at the hotrod power tour many years ago. Got the Ford, Mopar and Chevy Gods just about covered....

He had a great run. We can only speculate the possibilities if the bean counters had been left out.....R.I.P.

An American automotive icon/legend. What a character, beat Ferrari with American made Ford pushrod engines, survived a heart/lung transplant and lived to the ripe old age of 89.

One of a kind, alright. One of the last of the mavericks and a true hero of my teen years. One look at the original AC Cobra and I was blown away. It was a big bad 'backyard garage' effort that never even should have worked, but instead made mincemeat of the Corvettes in SCCA racing. Ford sure got its money's worth from collaborating with that 'nutcase' over the years.

It's funny how things stick in your mind. I was about 12 years old when I read a car magazine track test of a 289 Cobra, and I never forgot it...

The steering geometry was all wrong. The suspension geometry was all wrong. It would have been laughable except that the car was simply chewing up the track- turning in the fastest lap times we've ever recorded...

RIP, Carroll. You gave car enthusiasts a lot of 'WOW!' moments over the years...

I think what he did with his inovations to the european manufacturers was priceless along with anything with baring his name after today! What a loss but I'm sure his legacy will never be forgotten to every gearhead. I still think the 67 Shelby mustang is the coolest looking ride ever and I'm a Chevy guy!

What a lot of people have forgotten was Carroll Shelby built dodge power in the mid 80s.

I owned a Shelby.

I should have never gotten rid of it. It was my favorite car.

Delorean and Shelby are both gone. Wow... people who carved up the 60's are now dropping.

He lived a good, full life with lots of accomplishments, and always seemed to do it with an ease and pleasantness...a real gentleman! Hate to see these folks go!:(

And he also said the Mustang was a secretary's car and wouldn't amount to anything, and them made millions off of it.

Oh, I don't think anyone forgot. Always had something unexpected for us.
