Anyone ever used herculiner on the top surface of their boat trailers to help with traction when the trailers wet? I was thinking about doing that to the painted diamond plating I have on top of my trailer

Re: Herculiner

are you talking about walking the tongue to connect the bow? i just covered a 1x8 with carpet 4 angle brackets mounted to the side of the tongue with self tapping screws.

on the side steps i think it would work, i think i'd do the whole fender also. i have to use my step and then the fender to get in mine.

Re: Herculiner

I've used Herculiner on various things...covered ladder brackets for my pickup and that sort of thing. Never on a boat trailer. But it's easy to work with, looks good, lasts forever, offers good traction, and is bulletproof.

I think your plan will work very well and I see no reason to be concerned. Here's my recommendation: Prep work is everything....mask off the areas carefully, scuff sand it, paint the Herculiner on, then peel the masking tape off while it's still wet. That way you'll have beautiful clean edge lines. I think you'll be very pleased with the results.

An easier alternative is peel & stick traction mats. I bought some from Cabelas a few years back and they still look like new. Available in colors to match your trailer if I remember right. Just cut to size/shape, peel it off, stick it on. May also be available here on Iboats...not sure what it's really called but many places offer it.

I did my entire trailer in that stuff a few years back when I gave it the once-over. As craze1cars says, it's bulletproof!

I got-it as a kit, so it came with the stipple roller. I used a cheepy on most of the trailer, and that special one where I thought I might need the rough surface.

I had most of the stuff off when I did-it - anything that wasn't is there to stay!

Mine didn't. I brushed mine on some things, and it still ended up bumpy, with no brush lines.

Not real smooth, but using that special roller really makes the surface rough (in a good way). The supplied roller was only 3-4", but I used it wherever I thought I'd need the extra grip (fenders, tongue, etc).

It's nowhere near as 'pretty' as some of the other nicely painted trailers, but it's your basic black, and very durable.
