my rewind starter has lost ability to wind up is there any way to tighten the spring? or am I screwed

Spring is probably broken. So put in a new one, already. Unless your motor originally was used to power the Mayflower.

Like they said prob broke or bad dirty,greasy...........take it apart .......if its broke close to the end........just file or grind a new catch like the broke end has .........clean it and rewind............if its broke too close to the middle then listen to these officers................if you fix it like I said don't tell these officers they will have us swabbing the dang deck...........yo ho ho
