Help with wheel chocks and trailer stands.

Two questions:

1) What is the correct shape for wheel chocks? I have been using pieces of 2x4 on the driveway, but for winter storage outside, I want to make some pressure treated chocks. I park the boat in the yard on an incline to assist with drainage out the plugs, so I want big chocks to keep it from rolling backwards. Also have that freezing/thawing thing going on here in NJ through out the winter and the ground can get rather soft at times.

Will glue up some p/t 2x6 and cut them on the table saw. Just not sure if I should make them triangle, square or concave.

2) The trailer owners manual says to take SOME weight off the springs/tires for extended storage. Need to make some sort of stands to go with the chocks. Thinking of a basic triangle shape stand from 2x6. Any suggestions on easy to make stands is greatly appreciated.

PS. I have a lot of 2x6 pressure treated lumber I need to use up.

Seems to me that you could make something similar to those quick-change trailer jacks, that would do the same thing.

Maybe modifying the shape to incorporate the "chock" feature. I know they're designed for placement on the axle, but should work on any other cross-member.

For long term storage consider blocking the trailer frame up so the wheels are not touching the ground.

Wood blocks work great and so do concrete blocks.

Bob

Bob gets the gold star for today.

Getting the tires up off the ground is best.

If you're concerned about the spring tension- get those blocks that are about a buck each and put them under the frame behind the wheels and hitch. If they sit flat with the big holes facing up, they are stackable and can bear a tremendous amount of weight without crushing. Maybe lay a 2 x6 across them to keep from chewing up the paint with the block.

If you're going to block it up off the ground, you might as well pull the wheels off and put them in the garage, shed, etc. They won't be exposed to the sun, UV, and elements which is what accelerates tire rot.

Aircraft wheel chocks are triangular - less likely to slide. A 4x4 ripped diagonally works for me.
