I have a 1988 Bayliner with a 1988 85hp force. I am trying to set the initial timing. There are 4 timing marks with no numbers on them. Three off the marks are all with in an inch of each other, the middle mark is offset a little lower the the outer two. The forth mark is about three inches to the right of those. There are no numbers on any of these marks. Which of these marks is for 32degrees?

Re: Help with timing marks

the one by itself should be TDC then on my 125 they are 30 32 34

you can measure the circum of the flywheel to the nearest 1/16 then divide by 360 (for 360 degrees) and that will give you a measurement for 1 degree. multiply that times what you want the timing to be at and that will give you a measurement from that single TDC mark to the BTDC mark you want. see which mark you measure out to. I have mine set to 30

Re: Help with timing marks

Thanks for the info. It dawned on me on my way to work that the mark to the far right was probably TDC, but that still did answer what degrees the other marks were. I will measure it and be sure. I did use the middle mark as a starting point, from what you stated that would be 32.

Can I ask why you set yours at 30 instead of what the manual says (32)?

Thanks,

Joe

Never mind, I have since seen that force has revised the initial setting to 30 degrees.
