Help with throttle remote controls

Hi there, I?m new to boating and a bit confused.

I?ve been sourcing parts to put a center console in my little Tracker 12. I know it sounds silly but when it comes to throttle controls I?m not sure about the difference between ?surface mount?, ?side mount? and ?concealed side mount?.

I want to place the throttle on the vertical surface on right side of the console with one of the following options:

1. With the cables running inside the console down under the deck.
2. With the cables running outside the console down under the deck.

I?ve been looking at Johnson controls and I guess it?s going to be one of these:

REMOTE CONTROL - CONCEALED SIDE MOUNT 017692
REMOTE CONTROL - SURFACE MOUNT, NO KEY 0174229
REMOTE CONTROL - SIDE MOUNT 0177224

Not sure which is appropriate, is it more difficult to install the concealed control?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

PS: can the control handle on these systems be reversed right ? left handed?

Re: Help with throttle remote controls

Take a look at these

http://marineengineparts.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page278.html

They can supposedly be mounted on either side tho it doesn't explain how. Maybe get in contact with the manufacturer for installation instructions?

I understand what you're trying to do, but I know, for example, that my BRP starboard side-mount control wouldn't be "reversible" that way. Good luck!

Re: Help with throttle remote controls

Thanks

That controller might do the trick but I'm concerned about cable compatibility. I live in Barbados and the boat's on Eleuthera (out-islands, Bahamas). My boat's got a Johnson 15, I'm ordering the remote control conversion kit from the local dealer and out there you don't want to running around looking for cable adapters.
