Hi all,
I'm wondering if someone is able to help me. I have been trying to research the serial number to identify the year the motor on our boat is. It doesn't seem to come up on any of the charts that people have previously posted.
It is a 115HP Mercury Thunderbolt Ignition/Power Trim and the serial# is 2171654.
We have just recently bought this boat and trying to learn as much as possible. I am not sure if I am researching wrong but if someone is able to lend a hand it would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Lauren.

Lauren, It is not a serial number I could find either. Post some pics with cowling on and off so we can see the ignition system and carbs.

Hi Chris,
I'm sorry about this very late reply to your response. I have attached a few photos for you, hopefully they may help.
Thank you,
Lauren.

The cowling looks to be mixed between at least two motors, since part of it is blue and most is red. Most of the cowling looks to be pre-1970.

Because it is mixed, would there be much information, I had so much trouble trying to find anything with the serial number it has.
Also, this is a little bit off topic, the motor hasn't been started for well over a year, the ignition/key start part we had to re-do and fix all the wiring, that all works now but we tried to see if she would start, we had a glimps of hope as it would start to make a pop noise out of the propeller but there didn't seem enough to crank over. We definately need to do all the spark plugs as they are corroded but I'm not sure exactly of what would be recommended that we do to revamp/clean the motor given its age and how long it hasn't been started for.

Cheers,
Lauren.

I didn't realise that the photos of the motor with the canal off didn't upload, will do that tonight.

Gee, silver block with a new exhaust cover (black). I am not familar enough to guess any further. Starter and fuel pumps look like my '73, but likely older due to silver color of block. Coil looks older than '73 as well.

I like the cable and pully steering (not). Make sure it is really well secured to the hull before using that thing at high speed.
