I have tried everything I know to try and can't get the foot of my 1997 merc 150 to line up correctly to reinstall it. I have tried putting the thing in forward and turning the shaft and also tried turning the flywheel to no avail. Shining a flashlight up the lowerunit looking at where the drive shaft enters the powerhead, it looks like something has moved up there causing the hole to be slightly blocked or something. Is this possible and if so, how do I fix it so that the foot will go in the additional one inch it needs to be properly seated? Thanks

I am not familiar with this particualr motor, but I do know you have to line up shift shaft mechanism, waterpump tube, and driveshaft all at the same time. Once splines are in line then it should all slide up. You may feel some resistance when the o'ring on top of driveshaft goes into end of crankshaft.

Thanks Randyj, but I have no problem lining up the water pipe and shifting mechanism. The problem is that something has shifted up where the driveshaft meets the lower connecting end of the crankshaft. None of the repair manuals I have seen show the detail of what other components surround the lower crankshaft area once it enters the drive shaft housing, but I know that the waterpipe is held by something up there and I wonder if that has slipped or something.
