i have a triton tr20 with a 200 mercury efi. I am getting 5500 rpm with a 25 trophy plus 4 blade prop. gps speed is 64. I dont have a jackplate on the boat and i think one is needed. I run perfect by myself with half tank of gas and no water in livewells but as soon as i fill the livewells and put a partner in the boat i cant plane out without partner sitting on the front deck. I put prop plug in one side of the prop because it was blowing out on takeoff and at top end. that stopped the blowout but now it wont go with the added weight. I tried pulling plug out and putting a hole in the prop plug and that didnt help. i can put a jackplate on it if it will help but dont know what setback size jackplate is needed. please help me before i start wasting money. thank you

At 5500 I wouldn't think the holeshot would be very good. (We're assuming the 5500 is with the light load) Mercs aren't know for a lot of low end power anyway. A jackplate would help. A 6" hydraulic would be a reasonable starting point. Even if you thought a little more would help after some testing you can always add 2" spacers later.

I have the same boat/engine combo in an '01. Right now I'm running a 6" Hydro Manual Plate (would like a 8") , 25P Tempest Plus with trim extenders. After a rebuild my WOT is about 250 RPM off. Prior to rebuild, I could turn the 25P around 5800-5850 (67-70mph) on a cool day. A bit lazy out of the hole, compaired to Pro X's and others, with partner and tournament load.

I'd add an 8" TH Marine HP jackplate and even try a 25P Tempest Plus. I spoke to Triton about jack plates on the TR20's. They advised an 8" is about perfect, that a 10" would cause the back of the boat to sit a bit deep when full of fuel and full livewells. And, your engine should turn about 5800-5850 rpm WOT.. Your max rpm is 5850..
