Just got handed down three old Penn reels. Looking for any specs or info. Tried Penn webpage but link was not working for help. Reel info is as follows:
1. Penn 60 Longbeach

2. Penn SaltFisher #130

3. Penn Leveline 350

All our operationally sound and I'd like to use them a spares/back-ups if I can get some info on their set-ups. Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Help with old Penn reels

I got handed down a Penn too a few years ago. Although I grew up on Penns I had not used them for a long time. I had all the same questions you have.

I went to Penn's web site and was able to find the reel and print out an amazing amount of info including spec sheet/schematic showing ALL parts broken down and a complete parts list.

Keep trying their site, the info you need is there and free unlike many other sites. At the same time I got the Penn I got a Shakespeare and their site offered me nothing.

Most all parts for all reels ever made can be purchased. They are not the most high tech reels, but they are simple easy to use and extremely strong.

Put it on a nice rod and use it, bet you can't break it! You will be very happy with it. It's not the first reel I reach for but the fist time I did I got a 36" stripper.

It's probably 30 or 40 years old but Grand-pops Penn is still catching fish!

Re: Help with old Penn reels

Hi Guard Bum; I don't have an answer to your question but a couple of comments regarding Penn reels. I have a Peerless P-9, which I've had for many years and am still using on a Lake Trout trolling rig. Penn now makes a similar reel [209 levelwind], I don't know much about it but haven't heard anything negative.

My wife and I also have 2- 4.0 Senator reels we use on bottom fishing & Ling Cod trips. One bit of advice. If you have a spare spool don't load it with line. I have one for the P-9 and the line may be bad. Haven't needed it so the line is six years old.

Happy fishing! Hal

Harrison,

That's very good advice I have a spare in the box now for three years - never needed it.

Think I'll get a med-priced rod for it. It's a nice Penn and should be used if not by me or a novice friend that comes for the "fishing trip" with an old K-Mart push button spinner.

Thanks you got me thinkin (It's winter so ther was a little smoke but I was thinkin)

Thanks ;)

Penn reels are great; use them all the time for salmon fishing, including a couple of older ones. Thanks for the site info; I'll look for the schematics.
