Help with Old 25 HP Merc

Can anyone help with me with where to go for more info. on a 25 hp Mercury without a lower unit which I just received. The previous owner suspects it is from the mid 80's. Where can I go to confirm this? Also, where do I go to find out what lower units will be compatible? How much should I expect to pay for a used lower unit? Finally, where can I get a manual for this motor? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Schematic, If I typed all that, I'd still be typing this morning! Hunt and peck vs. copy and paste.... -G.....My wrench skills are almost as fast as my typing. When I get the 850 cranked again I'll give you a big holler. In the mean time, thanks to everybody.
