The four way connector Im replacing has 5 wires; White, Green Yellow Brown and another Brown. Why are there two brown wires? The replacement plug I bought only had 4 wires. It doesnt have the extra brown? Can I still use it?
thanks for the help. Wrestling with wiring all day is fun.

Trying to remember, the browns are running lites. Green and yellow are right/left turn and brake. White is ground. Browns can probably be joined to one. Don't take it to the bank!

I dont think I can crimp two wires in one adhesive lined heat shrink crimp. This is the only connector the store had. Is there a marine grade wire splitter?

There are two brown wires because one is intended to run down one side of the trailer and the other goes down the other side. Both can be tied together since they are fed by the same pin. You can also snip off one of them or use just one (but tape up the one not being used so it doesn't touch ground or you will blow a fuse.

Use either brown wire that you want...if you are just splicing in this new plug, you don't need to use both. Be sure that the brown wire that you don't use is capped off properly, so it doesn't short out anywhere.

Like others mentioned, the brown is for the running and/or parking lights. Some trailers run a seperate brown to each taillight...others just share the one.

Happy boating!

P.S. Sorry Silvertip...I didn't see you posting!
