so today i upgraded to a bigger motor for my little bass buster (14 Foot Fiberglass Vhull John boat)
picked up a decent looking 9.5 evinrude sportwin off a guy from craigslist
famous last words motor runs like a top
so got it out on the lake to day fired up first pull:thumb:
putting around in the no wake zone a few minutes runs fine
so i figure lets see what it will do, leave the bouys open her up an tiller handle reaches start an hits motor cover motor runs fine just cant get it past about half throttle im new to tiller handles any way this guy can be adjusted??
apon further inspection i see the butterfly valve in the carb is only turned 1/4 ways open hopefully i hadnt bitten off more then i can chew with this little thing only time will tell all information will be greatly appriciated, the guy i bought it from said it was a 1971, i hadnt checked the numbers on it but will be sure to do in the morning

On your motor there is a device that limits how much throttle you can give it in neutral to prevent you from putting it in gear at high rpm. It is on the stbd side under the cowl. Twist the throttle grip and follow the linkages until you see where the linkage is hitting the stop. There should be a nut that can be loosened to adjust the orientation of the stop pin allowing higher rpms when in gear.

DJ........are you saying that when you turn the tiller something is hitting the motor cowl and prevents the throttle from opening all the way? If so, have you taken the cowl off and tried running it that way?

ok guys got good new thanks for the replys by the way
so i got her to run full throttle come to find out the linkage that goes to my butterfly the little flathead screw was loose an allowing the shaft to the butterfly to sit in on place so i tightened her up an now she runs wide open......

now for the bad new my tiller handle it out of sync with my linkages it goes from slow to fast turn wise but, it is in reverse meaning i am past the teeth about half throttle then it catches teeth an goes wide open im thinking i need to take my tiller handle off but i have been looking at it an dont see how it is bolted on, anyone ever taken one of htese things off before or is there a way i can pull the shaft back enough to realign it, again guys thanks alot for the replys

When you tighten the butterfly linkage have your tiller turned down and the butterfly closed. I have not seen a 9.5 tiller that out of sink before. Best of luck. Rick.
