For my 1998 Mercruiser 5.0L I need to check the timing. Per my service manual (attached) there should be a reference to TDC. Where is this located on the engine (engine photos attached)? I guessing it should be close to the Harmonic Balancer, but I cannot find it.

Timing mark is on your timing cover, just above the balancer on the port side. Should be a line on the balancer marking TDC

I found the Timing Mark, closer photo attached. How do I determine where 8-10º would be? Thanks

There should be a mark or several marks on the balancer as shown in the photos. If you only have a TDC mark you can use an advance timing light which will offset or advance the light so that you can use TDC and set it for 8 or 10 deg advanced so light will be timed for tdc mark
