I was looking at my boat and engine this morning and noticed that the cavitation plate on the engine is about 4 inches lower than the bottom of my boat. I'm not sure where I heard this but isn't the cavitation plate on the engine suppose the be level or even with the bottom of the boat??? Wouldn't I get a little better perfomance if I raise the engine to bring the cavitation plate even with the bottom of the boat? This is a small boat and small engine. Also fixing the install a Stingray wing on the engine. Any help with both of these questions will be appreciated. 25 hp merc and 14 ft aluminum boat.

Yes the plate should be level with the bottom of the boat. I raised mine and it made a difference.

I just did one the other day. They are very easy to mount. I used 5/16 bolts instead of the 1/4 that came with it. Other than that ...tell us the performance benifits when you take her out!

FYI, the actual transom to cavitation plate distance on the 25 Merc is 17" for the shortshaft and 22" for the long shaft.

I would guess you have a long shaft motor on a short shaft transom. ;)
