Just picked up this engine got it running and noticed it doesn't have a tell-tale. Was wondering if someone could give me advice on how to install one

Kind of a Frankenstein but looks like a early powerhed dropped on the 85 chassis.

Serial and Model #s on the Bracket and on the Powerhead, certainly don't match.

I would be removing the powerhead to make sure that 49 cube block is not installed on a 56 cube midsection.------------No need to look at anything else !!

Everything lines up perfectly and the motor runs great and shifts perfectly. Only thing I would like help with is where to drill to install for a tell-tale because I don't want to over heat my multi year motor.

Nope----The hood appears to be a 1985 and not the same as a 77 hood.-----You need to check whether the 77 powerhead is properly installed on the 1985 midsection !!--------------Have you tested the overheat warning horn ?----Tell tale just is one way to indicate that water pump is working.-----Does not indicate that motor is cooling properly.

Could also be a 1985 trim / tilt grafted onto a 77 exhaust housing.

Follow word for word.----Find the tan wire near top of cylinder head.----Slide the rubber boot to expose metal connecter.----Turn key to " on " at control box.----Touch metal on tan wire to a head bolt.----Horn should sound.

Spoke to the guy I got motor from he informed me that it is intact a 77 power head and lower section the transom mount was replaced with 85 section to add tilt & trim to the motor. The only reason he got rid of motor was he was given a newer bigger motor.
