i just bought the bunkboard style guide ons for my trailer, my concern is that they do not rub up on the boat itself. its like 1" away is this supposed to be normal. the directions do not show if its rubbing the boat or just close. any help would be great. p/s i read the post on the same subject here but it did not really help me. i did find that most of the iboaters like them. thank you Braxton

That’s not making any sense to me, perhaps I’m not reading this correctly but are you saying the weight of the boat is not being supported by the bunks?? If not than what is the boat sitting on (obviously the keen rollers) but what else?

no paulie these go on the sides of the trailer, the boat sits fine. these are supposed to help guide it on side to side. to help feep the boat centered.

oh, ok thanks, that makes sense now. Yeah I would think that you should have a little clearance when the boat is loaded on.

Cheers

Usually an inch to two or three inches is fine......maybe even a little more depending on your trailer and the way the boat sits on it.

They are supposed to be adjustable several inches each way (in and out). I would think that you are fine with yours, having said that without seeing a picture, etc.

The main thing is to make sure that they will keep your boat on center, so to speak, of your trailer when you are loading.

After using them on mine for several years I probably will have them on any boat trailer I own.

I don't think it matters that much. If your boat will center on the bottom bunks or rollers with them 2" out so be it. If not, bring them in. Just make sure the boat will clear them.

Course some could worry that if the bunks touched the hull, they could accumulate crud and scratch it when you launch and retrieve. A point to consider.

Mine are about 2" out and work fine on a pad hull......which easily centers on the bottom.

My 2c

Mark

Re: help with bunkboard guide ons

I have two-inch PVC guides at the end of the trailer. Only problem is that the boat is is widest in the middle and doesn't center that well. Any suggestions?

All that I have seen clear a couple of inches (give or take) on each side.
I don't have them, but, I bet they'd sure help on really windy days....not to mention being able to see the back of trailer when backing down a ramp empty.

Art, you can always add another pair farther up towards the front of the trailer. Have seen plenty of trailers with four posts on them and they seem to work fine.

You just need to figure out where they will work the best for you....usually about half way up or so.
