Help with 97 evinrude

I have a 50hp evinrude, here lately it's got to where when you crank it up and run it then come to an idle it hiccups. It will sit there and idle for about 15 seconds, hiccup, idle, hiccup and then go dead. It will crank back up and run out through low to high rpms fine. I've recently had a new fuel pump installed, and carbs worked on as well as a power pack in the last year. Bad part is it was doing this before as well. Any ideas?

check sync. and link adjustments.
be sure motor warms up
adjust mixture screws(I think the 97 still had them).

So you are talking about the connections where the controls connect to the engine on the right side of the engine?
