Ayuh,... Sounds like water in yer carb....

Follow the fuel lines to find the fuel tank...
The Anti-siphon valve is at the top of the pickup tube...

Well thats not good....can i drain the tank through the filler nozzle with a transfer pump and effectively remove any water thats in the tank? i can drain the carb but that tank is really bugging me.

ok, here we go...I am still facing this problem and am ready to scuttle my vessel...(sell it) it srill loses power and dies after a few minutes(acts like running out of gas) It has a 1978 mercuiser 228(305 gm) it had the points removed by previous owner and electronic ignition installed(mercruiser kit). the following is all that i have done to it so far....
1. replaced fuel lines and filters
2. inspected and replace fuel pickup screen and anti siphon valve
3. fuel pressure tested at 6-7 psi constant.
4. replaced coil
5. replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor...(plugs were wet)
6. cylinder compression test, was told all ok (not sure actual reading for each)
7. replaced temp sending unit and gauge...temp ok!(just in case)
8. tested fuel for water, all ok..tried using external tank with fresh gas...ran the same!
9. checked timing...6-8 degrees.....all ok
10. checked and lubed distributor mechanism under cap..all ok
11. check for fuel (after motor died) tried starting fluid...didnt help!
12. checked #1 spark plug after died....spark was intermitent/ inconsistant...

the only thing left that i knoe of is to replace the mercruiser kit that includes the ignition control module. it cost me 236.00 but i need to check it....the only way this thing starts is when it is cold then looses power and dies after about 5 min...if i let it sit for 1/2 hour then it will fire and run for a few minutes than die again... hopefully this new icm helps me. if anyone has any info please let me know.

Re: help with 78 sea ray srv220, engine bogs down over 1700 rpm

also i noticed lack of fuel in the carb last night, disconected gas line at carb and rechecked the little filter there and noticed no gas in the line coming from the pump and very little coming from the carb inlet. put pressure gauge back on fuel pump and turned over engine and it went to 5 psi(quickly) then dropped to zero 20-30 seconds after i stopped cranking, also checked the line to carb for any blockage, none found. noticed fuel pump was wet externally with trace amounts of fuel(before disconecting line). the glass fuel bowl is also completely empty...what is the purpose of this device and should there be anything in it??? any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

Ayuh,.... What's this $236.00 part yer talkin' about,..??

You don't have a stock ignition, 'n I haven't done what you've got,....
I've either had points, or T-Bolt IVs....

It sounds like yer hittin' the bases,.. fuel pump sounds good...

Use yer timing light to monitor the spark, 'n advance....
Use a test light to monitor the power to the coil,..??

I donno how to test the pertronics stuff.... have ya been to their website, 'n poked around,..??
