Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out on this. I am going to be adding several gauges to my boat and I need some help. I think I remember the tach source wire is gray and ignition is purple. Correct? I am installing Speedometer, Tachometer, Water Pressure, Volt gauge and Trim gauge. I think I am pretty sure on everything except the trim gauge. I have never installed a trim gauge on any of my boats before. This boat has a jack plate and I figured a trim gauge might be useful. The boat already has the status (four led) gauge in the dash and a fuel guage. That is all the gauges the boat came with.
My question is what color wires do I need to look for in the wiring harness for the trim gauge? Am I correct on the Gray wire for tach and the purple for ignition? Any information on installing any of the other listed gauges?
Thanks in advance for the help,
David

David, Purple is the accessory wire. Use it to power the gauges and as a source of voltage for the voltage gauge. Grey is tach sender. I do not remember the color of the trim sender wire, but the three wires for the trim gauge are together in the harness, and seperate from everything else, and two of them are purple and black. If you look at the trim harness in the motor you should see a colored wire to match up.

If you want to get cute, you can wire all the gauges lights to the navigation switch. The lazy way is to wire the lights to the purple wire.

Chris,
Thanks for the info and reply. I will see what I can find as far as two purple and black wires. You are talking about at the motor and not under the dash, correct?
Is there a good online source to buy a manual for this motor or an online manual service for this type of thing?
Thanks again,
David

That depends on what type of control you have. They will be under the dash on a binnacle (top) mount and inside the control box on a side mount.

The best place for OEM manuals is Ken Cook.com. They are not free or cheap.

Re: Help with 2005 Johnson 115 Ocean Pro 2-stroke wiring?

I have a center console boat with the top mounted controls.
I found two sets of wires under the dash that were taped up. The first group three are not connected to anything and the colors are gray (tach ??), purple, black. The second group not connected to anything are purple, black, and white with a dark tan or brown strip. Are these the wires for gauges?
Is the white and brown (bark tan) strip the source wire for the trim?

Thanks in advance,
David

1730v,
I read what Chris 1956 posted and was not doubting him or second guessing him in any way. I was just trying to make sure I had the correct wires and was not going to mess anything up.
Thanks again for the help,
David
